We've all heard the story about the ugly duckling that grew to become a beautiful swan, but I dare say you'll find this video showing a tawny frogmouth chick turn into something that looks more like a bird and less like the result of a weird science experiment way more entertaining.

According to Zoo Borns, the tawny frogmouth chick featured in this video was born at St. Louis Zoo in Missouri, US on November 2. At some time after birth, vets collected DNA samples and, after analyzing them, determined that the bird was a girl.

Both keepers at the Zoo and its parents are taking really good care of it, which is why, since its birth until now, the chick has grown to be way stronger and more confident than it was the day it emerged from its egg.

Wildlife researchers say that this species is native to Australia, Tasmania and southern New Guinea. Its population in the wild is said to be stable, which is why the International Union for Conservation of Nature considers the species to be one of least concern.
