They give the words “dancing lights” a whole new meaning

Even though some people may not like the idea of robotic swarms, we feel that horrific Sci Fi scenarios aren't the only possible outcome of inventing something like the AscTec Quadrocopter (otherwise known as quadrotor), especially after seeing them appreciate even the Christmas spirit.

Last time we saw the machines flying in a flock, it happened in a, shall we say, controlled environment, and it was just for the sake of demonstration.

Now, though, the machines have evolved from “demonstrative” to “entertaining.”

The video below shows 49 Hummingbird quadrocopters painting light shows on the Austrian sky.

Multiple maneuvers are accomplished, and the colors often change, to suit the theme, mood and to just be more visible as the night deepened. At some point, even the moon came out from behind the clouds, as if to gaze upon the show.

Feel free to tell us how beautiful, adorable, terrifying and/or creepy you find the spectacle. By all accounts, the music can push the sensation in either direction.
