If you own a computer and also have a decent Internet connection, chances are that you are not a stranger to social media. Be it Facebook, Twitter, or some other website, they all claim to help us keep in touch with each other.

Still, what many are utterly oblivious to is the fact that social media alters the inner workings of our brain. Simply put, it changes us more than we think. Check out the video below to learn how and why this happens.

This might come as a bit of a shock, but, apparently, about 5-10% of all the Internet users in the world are addicted to the online world.

The addiction is a psychological one, but this does not change the fact that the Internet affects the brain much like drugs do.

What's more, evidence indicates that spending a bit too much time surfing the web affects people's ability to stick to a task at hand and not be bothered by interferences, and also makes it more difficult for folks to retain new information.

Besides, social media users tend to be more self-involved (granted, this isn't exactly breaking news), and quite concerned with how many followers they have (once again, no surprise here).
