Danny Macaskill is a famed trials cyclist, who also works professionally as a street trials pro rider for Inspired Bicycles.
The Ridge is the latest movie produced by Danny Macaskill and is the first where he takes out his mountain bike in order to return to his native Isle of Skype in Scotland to ride the notorious Cuillin Ridgeline, a range of rocky mountains which are known for their difficulty.
Unlike Danny’s previous films, this one was shot and produced without a mainstream media partner, but the team that came together to create it really wanted to do it.

Danny had had his mind set on the Cullin Ridge on the Skye for a while now, so he managed to convince everybody that they would prove the perfect scenario for an action movie. The only impediment was the fact that none of them had ever been up there.
So the first step was to actually take a trip out there and see what they were about to take on.
One thing was sure from the get-go, they wouldn't have it easy, as the weather was far from gentle. One of the team members actually confessed the expedition was half scouting, half survival.
Even so, the majesty of the mountain convinced Danny the film was worth doing, even if it turned out to be one of the most physically straining movies ever shot.
Two GH4 cameras and a drone were used
The team assembled for the project was a pretty basic one and their working kit included a Canon C300 Camera, two Panasonic GH4 cameras (one for the Movi and one for the drone), one Movi M5, one Manfrotto Tripod, one Hague Mini jib, one Canon Prime lens selection, one DJI S1000 Drone plus controllers/monitors, eight spare batteries for the drone and one GoPro kit.
As the team was assembled, they had to wait for a favorable weather report, in order to head out to Skye and start their shooting adventure.
As one of the team members explains, the first week delivered the best weather and most of the shooting took place during that period.
Anyway, you can take a look at the results in the video below. The film is quite breathtaking and you can easily see why the team fell in love with the mountain in the first place, despite its rough nature.
The video quickly became viral on YouTube and it's not hard to comprehend why. That image of Danny sitting with his bike on that steep mountain peak is absolutely mind blowing!
