The average person has about 2,000 – 8,000 taste buds, lucky ones have more

Sure, the human brain is utterly fascinating, what with its ability to store information, coordinate our movements and whatnot. But the human tongue is also pretty amazing, and now there is a video to prove it.

Apparently, the average Joe and Jane has somewhere between 2,000 – 8,000 taste buds on their tongue.

However, there are certain “chosen” ones that have more, and who therefore can enjoy tastes and flavors a tad more than ordinary folks do.

Fear not, the video also details a test that can supposedly help people figure out whether or not they have a superstar's tongue. I don't know about you, but I'm seriously considering taking this test later today.

What's really interesting is that the human tongue cannot pick up on various tastes in the absence of saliva.

Otherwise put, make sure you have a really dry mouth the next time a friend who is clueless about cooking offers to make you dinner, and you're too polite to say “no.”
