Tasmanian devils are an endangered species, conservationists warn

They might be called Tasmanian devils, but few (if any, for that matter) would even dare labeling these two joeys as anything else but annoyingly adorable creatures.

The baby Tasmanian devils featured in the video were born at Devil Ark in Barrington Tops, a conservation breeding program aimed at keeping this species from going extinct on mainland Australia.

Wildlife researchers explain that the Tasmanian devils' long-term survival is currently threatened by a contagious disease that causes these animals to develop facial tumors.

Therefore, the birth of these two joeys is regarded by many as a major achievement in terms of safeguarding the species and keeping Tasmanian devils from falling off the biodiversity map.

For the time being, the staff at Devil Ark have roughly 120 such animals to look after. However, they hope that by 2016 at the latest, they will have succeeded in upping this number to 360 individuals.
