Tar sands oil is not welcomed in the United States, green groups say

The tar sands conundrum is far from being over, seeing how companies in this dirty industry have not yet given up plans to build thousands of kilometers of pipelines across the United States.

As detailed in the video above, these pipelines would only serve one purpose: carry oil from Canada all the way to ports. Once here, the oil would be shipped to countries all around the world.

What worries environmentalists is the fact that, first off, exploiting tar sands causes loads of environmental pollution.

Secondly, odds are that the pipelines carrying the oil extracted from these fields would crack and spill some of their content on a fairly regular basis, thus affecting both water quality and public health in the United States.

As the video puts it, ordinary folks living in this country would be the ones who would end up hurting, whereas oil companies would be the ones getting rich.

Head over to the official website for Sierra Club's Beyond Oil campaign to learn more about the risks associated with tar sands oil, and what you can do to prevent this industry from further harming the environment.
