Apple has posted the July 16 Press Conference online for anyone who might be interested in seeing what the company had to say in response to widespread claims of iPhone 4 antenna issues.

Cupertino has been keen to prove that other smartphones have such weaknesses and that iPhone 4 is still the best smartphone out there, although Apple is now facing a bit of a backlash over this move. In a report titled “Mobile Industry Reacts to Apple's Sayings on Smartphones Reception”, Softpedia noted that companies like RIM, Nokia and Samsung had reacted to Apple's assertions, stating that the specific issues plaguing the iPhone 4 would never be found in their devices. It remains a matter of whose side you take here.

Apple’s Steve Jobs said, “What we did was X marks the spot. We went to a lot of trouble to put this beautiful line in the stainless steel to say ‘here’s where you touch it everybody’. We could have just waved a little red flag right there,” he sarcastically said. “And, we had incorrect bars, so that when it did drop, the drop looked far more catastrophic than in reality it was.” Jobs could not stress enough that, “This is life in the smartphone world. […] Smartphones have weakspots!”

To appease customers who still are unsatisfied by the performance of the iPhone 4 after applying the iOS 4.0.1 software update, Apple is giving out free Bumpers, and other cases, which should alleviate any problems they may have with reception, while those who want to return their device to Apple can do so for a full refund within 30 days of their purchase, provided that the device is undamaged.

Apple also promised to keep looking into the matter, and confirmed that it was able to isolate a proximity sensor issue which should be fixed relatively soon via a new software update. White iPhone 4s, one of Steve Jobs’ final updates during the event, are scheduled to go on sale this month, July 30. Finally, iPhone 4 is launching in 17 more countries on the same day.
