Stephen Colbert has returned to The Colbert Report on Comedy Central the other night, and he did so by paying a very touching tribute to his mother, Lorna Elizabeth Tuck Colbert, who died last week, aged 92.

Check it out in full in the video below.

Fans of the show must already know that he’s been away for a week to attend the funerals and be with the family at this difficult time, so he opened the show with a segment paying homage to the woman who helped him become the man he is today.

“If you watch this show, and you like this show, it’s because of everybody who works here and I’m lucky to be one of them. When you watch the show, if you also like me, that’s because of my mom,” he said.

He also spoke about how his parents met and what a loving and nurturing family he had growing up, mostly because of his mother.

She also encouraged them in their artistic endeavors and would “do stage falls by pretending to faint on the kitchen floor,” Colbert recalled.
