As reported on numerous occasions, Beijing is currently facing a major air pollution spike, and most people are afraid to go out on the streets seeing how doing so might translate into their health being seriously impacted.

The video above shows how one engineer, Matt Hope, decided to put his skills and his knowledge in the service of public health.

To cut a long story short, this engineer designed a steampunk bicycle which helps its rider navigate through highly polluted areas without ever having to worry about breathing in contaminated air.

As Matt Hope explains, the bicycle he designed basically uses a filtration system in order to clean the air of any harmful components.

The only downside is that, because it also has some electronic bits and pieces, it cannot be ridden on rainy days.
