Fairly disturbing video documents what happens to our body when we spend too much of our time sitting

First off, fair warning: the video below might just make you quit your job as soon as you're done watching it. Provided that you work in an office and spend hours on end sitting, that is.

Not to beat about the bush, this animation explains what happens to the human body when we sit too much, be it because we have a desk job or because we are downright lazy.

As explained in the video, the human body burns just one calorie per minute when in a sitting position. This is because our muscles become pretty much inactive.

Besides, it appears that whenever we sit for about three hours in a row, our arteries become fairly narrow. This makes it more difficult for blood to flow through our body and ups the risk of cardiovascular trouble.

Sitting too much also alters our body's chemistry in such ways that we are more likely to put on weight. Needless to say, it also makes it way more difficult to shake off unwanted love handles.

What's truly shocking is that, according to studies carried out over the years, people who sit too much have high chances to experience a drop in their bone mass. Besides, their lifespan is considerably reduced.

On the bright side, it appears that there are a few tricks that can help keep us healthy even if we absolutely have to sit for several hours in a row on a daily basis.

These tricks, detailed in the second video available below, all boil down to doing our best to get up and take a few steps as often as we can while going about our work routine.
