Brainiacs at Queen Mary University of London's Cognitive Science Research Group have recently finished work on a robot stand-up comedian.

The metal comedian, dubbed RoboThespian, has even been put to the test at the Barbican Center, a performing arts center in London.

As surprising as this may sound, the jokes it told have managed to stir some giggles.

Check out the video above to see fragments from the robot's performance.

Truth be told, RoboThespian still has a long way to go before it stands a chance at competing against Robbie Williams, Edie Griffin, Eddie Murphy and the like.

Especially when it comes to delivering the punch line.

Still, it is oddly charismatic, the audience seems to think.

Here's hoping RoboThespian's creators will continue to improve on the robot's design, and its future shows will be more entertaining.
