The heartwarming moment when a retired soldier from Florida is reunited with his former dog partner has been caught on camera and moved many animal lovers.

Air Force Sergeant David Simpson flew all the way to Germany for the emotional encounter with German Shepard Robbie, his faithful military pooch partner, after more than a year apart.

NY Daily News informs us that the two had worked together for four years in Iraq but were separated when Simpson had to leave the military for medical reasons last year. Meanwhile, Robbie continued in service at Spangdahlem Air Base in Germany.

It was a tough moment for both of them as they were inseparable on duty, but fortunately, the separation was only temporary.

“It was very tough to go through, and you don’t know if the dog understands. Having to say goodbye, that is heartbreaking,” Simpson said.

After learning that his old pal has also retired, Simpson decided to adopt him, so he flew thousands of miles from US to Germany to take him to his home in Florida.

Robbie is now living with Simpson's family and is in the process of adjusting to civilian life. “My goal for him is to allow him to have as much fun and relaxation for the rest of his life. I just want him to enjoy his retirement,” the former soldier added.
