The penguins got dressed up to celebrate the arrival of 50 African leaders in Japan

This past weekend, 50 African leaders arrived in Japan. The leaders visited the country in order to take part in the Tokyo International Conference on African Development.

Wishing to make them feel more like at home, black-footed penguins at the Hakkejima Sea Paradise put on their best African costumes and marched around the wildlife park.

OK, maybe the staff at this park made them wear the suits and the penguins didn't just wake up one morning thinking about how cool it would be to strut around in human clothes.

However, one has to admit that it was a pretty good idea. More so since these penguins are of African origin, which is probably why the outfits suited them as well as they did.

Conservationists warn that black-footed penguins are currently listed as an endangered species, and that commercial fish catching operations are to blame for the fact that their population is steadily declining.
