Yesterday, we had the chance to have a glimpse at the first video commercial for the brand new Samsung Galaxy S5, and we can now take a better look at the device, courtesy of an introduction video that the South Korean mobile phone maker has published on YouTube.

The mobile phone was made official last week at the Mobile World Congress in Barcelona and should arrive on shelves around the world starting with April 11, providing users with a nice range of enhancements over last year’s Galaxy S4 flagship model.

For those out of the loop, we should note that Samsung announced the new device with a brand new design, featuring a perforated pattern on the back cover, aimed at improving grip.

Moreover, the smartphone was unveiled in a variety of color options, including Shimmery White, Charcoal Black, Copper Gold, and Electric Blue.

The hardware specs of Galaxy S5 received a boost when compared to those of Galaxy S4, starting with the screen, which is now of 5.1 inches, though only capable of delivering a full HD resolution (the smartphone was expected to pack a 2K screen).

As Samsung notes, the handset comes with a slim bezel and an Adaptive Display, which should provide users with a better overall viewing experience that the predecessor.

The processor inside the new flagship got a boost as well, now being a 2.5GHz quad-core Snapdragon 801 chip, thus capable of better performance capabilities. The attached 2GB of RAM should help in this regard.

On the back, the Galaxy S5 sports a 16-megapixel camera with a larger sensor, capable of recording videos in full HD resolution.

“It has the world's fastest autofocus speed up to 0.3 seconds on a smartphone, a new Selective Focus that makes it a snap to take pictures with blurred backgrounds, as well as the ability to preview in real time when capturing High Dynamic Range (Rich Tone) images and videos,” Samsung notes.

The new device also features a front camera for making video calls while on the go, as well as a wide range of connectivity capabilities, such as Wi-Fi 802.11ac 2X2 MIMO and LTE Category 4.

Samsung Galaxy S5 is powered by a 2800mAh battery (with Ultra Power Saving Mode) and runs under Google’s Android 4.4 KitKat operating system. The smartphone was also announced with dust and water resistance (IP67 certified), and with a great deal of software features and capabilities.

“For an active lifestyle, the GALAXY S5 provides dedicated fitness tools such as the ability to set tailored goals for workouts, track fitness progress and measure heart rate with built-in heart rate sensor,” Samsung notes.

The one thing that the company hasn’t unveiled when it comes to the new Galaxy S5 was the price tag that would be attached to it at launch. However, it should provide specific info on the matter in the next several weeks, so stay tuned.
