Not very long ago, a baby Asian elephant was born at Madrid Zoo.

Its birth was celebrated both by the staff at this facility and by conservationists, seeing how only about 260 such elephants are currently living in Europe.

The video shows the Asian elephant calf taking a few steps around its enclosure and trying to become more familiar with its surroundings.

As one can easily notice, the elephant is still a bit insecure, hence its not straying too far from its mother.

Its caretakers explain that, for the time being at least, the baby elephant is to only interact with its mum and its aunt. However, it will be introduced to the rest of the herd once it grows a tad bigger and stronger.

“Look at the mum's giant feet, and then look at his tiny feet. So adorable,” one viewer commented on this video.
