14 DAY TRIAL // There are some very mysterious (and really cool) forces at work in the Universe. The video above shows a cloud changing its shape and acting as if something were controlling it.
Some of the people who've seen this bizarre footage went as far as to say that the cloud looks as if it were dancing.
Personally, I can't hear any music playing in the background, so I'm guessing there must be some other explanation for this odd phenomenon.
Meteorologist Walter Lyons argues that the video shows both ice crystals moved about by the electrical forces at play inside the cloud, and the sunlight reflected by them.
“The answer lies in this: ice crystals, especially long needles, tend to become aligned with the ambient electric field. So what you are seeing is sunlight reflecting off ice crystal faces that are constantly being oriented by the developing electric field just above the [cumulonimbus] top.”
“Then there is a discharge in the cloud, and the field collapses momentarily, and the crystals begin to realign again. Then this just keeps happening over and over,” Walter Lyons said, as cited by Discover Magazine.
Granted, the video is fairly old. Still, I dare say it's totally worth 5 minutes of your time.
