The Ice Bucket Challenge is for a good cause, and people more or less famous around the world have joined in this campaign for charity. The number of people who donated for the research of ALS (amyotrophic lateral sclerosis) is impressive.

Never before has the ALS organization managed to raise such a high amount of money in such a short time. As of August 20 the ALS Association received no less than $31.5 million (€23.7 million) in donations compared to $1.9 million (€1.42 million) during the same time period last year.

It’s even more exciting that people from all over the world have donated for the research of such a devastating disease as ALS.

For those unaware, the Ice Bucket Challenge for ALS began with two Westchester families and went viral with another family in Boston. Since then, lots of politicians, sports stars and celebrities have taken the Ice Bucket Challenge and passed it on to their friends or rivals.

The last on the list of tech celebrities who have recently taken the Ice Bucket Challenge is Microsoft’s Joe Belfiore. The company’s VP and head of Windows Phone development accepted a challenge from Satoshi Nakajima, founder of UIEvolution and one of the major figures who worked on Windows 95 in the 90s.

He then nominated Stephen Elop, Marcus Ash and Chee Chew, who are to support the ALS with their donations. However, it looks like Joe Belfiore made their lives harder by doing the Ice Bucket Challenge while surfing, which is simply crazy.

Belfiore’s nominations will need some good ideas for taking the ALS Ice Bucket Challenge, as Microsoft’s VP took it to another level. Or they can simply do it the standard way and donate a larger amount to The ALS Association.

Anyone can take the Ice Bucket Challenge even if he/she wasn’t nominated by someone else, as long as he/she joins the cause and donates for the research of ALS.

The only thing you need is a bucket with cold ice water and a device with which to record it in case you want to challenge some of your friends.

Keep in mind that the Ice Bucket Challenge is meant to help spread awareness and raise funds in the fight against ALS, so even if for some this may sound ridiculous, it’s for a great cause.

Obviously, Bill Gates could have just donated a certain amount to The ALS Association, but by taking the Ice Bucket Challenge he really helped spread awareness, which is exactly what we all should do. So go donate via ALS Association website.
