Microsoft used the Worldwide Partner Conference 2014 in Washington to demonstrate several new technologies that it's working on, including Skype Translate.

While the feature is not new, Microsoft says that development has reached a very advanced stage and the company could launch a beta version later this year for everyone.

Basically, Skype Translate allows you to chat with someone speaking another language in your native language, with Skype taking care of everything and translating your words as you speak them. This way, you can talk in Chinese, for example, but your friend living in the United Kingdom will still hear your message in English.

As you can see in this video, Skype Translate is really an impressive technology and the way it works made many who attended the show to applaud several times.

Sure, it does need refinements and it might have a few problems understanding what you're saying and translating your words to the other language, but it will definitely be improved in the coming months before hitting the market in beta form.

Watch the video above and tell us what you think in the comment box below. Skype Translate is going to be available on all platforms running Skype, including mobile operating systems and Windows, in both desktop and Metro forms.
