Windows 8’s advertising campaign goes global with new ads

Windows 8 is set to hit the shelves on Friday, so Microsoft has already started its global advertising campaign in a total of 42 countries.

The company announced its plans to roll out one of the largest advertising campaigns ever a few weeks ago, with some sources familiar with the matter suggesting that its final budget could even get close to $2 billion (€1.5 billion).

This time however, the Redmond-based technology company decided to go for a variety of indie and up and coming bands across the globe, not because they would be cheaper, but because it “wanted to bring the viewer on a journey of discovery,” as Rob Reilly, partner/worldwide chief creative officer, Crispin, Porter and Bogusky, explained.

Advertising Agency Crispin, Porter and Bogusky is one of the main Microsoft partners in the United States for the upcoming Windows 8 marketing blitz.

“We focused on the experiences that new Windows 8 devices will give all of us,” said Reilly.

“And we didn’t get too literal. It’s not about landing features and scenarios, it is about themes like sharing and staying connected, working and playing together, and expressing yourself. They are what connect and resonate across cultures in this digital and social age and what is absolutely core to this product.”

Microsoft will officially unveil the new Windows 8 operating system on October 25, while the product is slated to go on sale on Friday. It’ll be available online via Microsoft’s Store and a few other websites, but also at retailers across the United States and the rest of the world.

Amazon has already launched a special offer that allows you to get the new operating system a bit cheaper, so make sure you send your order before the official product unveiling.
