The cans cough out their content, eventually melt away completely

The human race is known to be quite curious, especially when compared to other species, which is why it should not surprise many that someone was more than eager to find out what would happen should a can of Coke be put in front of a flow of lava.

Thanks to this someone's curiosity, we now get to enjoy the video above. The footage made it online a few days ago, and it has until now been viewed over 4.4 million times by people on YouTube.

Truth be told, no impressive explosion occurs as the cans are engulfed by the oozing flow. Still, the footage is oddly fascinating.

According to Bryan Lowry, who pieced together the video, the lava had a temperature of about 2,000 degrees Fahrenheit (about 1,093 degrees Celsius).

This is why, when it encountered the first can of Coke, which had a hole punched in its top, it caused it to cough out its content.

The other can, which was intact when the fluid reached it, started leaking from one of its sides.

In case anyone was wondering, the cans eventually melted away entirely. So, as Bryan Lowry puts it, “If anyone's worried this is littering, relax.”
