The Maasai Mara, or, as it is more formally known, the Maasai Mara National Reserve, is a large game reserve in Kenya's Narok County. The region is home to impressive biodiversity, and, as shown in the video below, is also quite beautiful in itself.

This footage made it online just yesterday, when it was posted on YouTube by green group the World Wildlife Fund. The organization does not go out and say it, but I for one am guessing that it shared the video in an attempt to raise awareness of the need to protect this patch of land and the creatures inhabiting it.

As detailed in the description accompanying the footage on YouTube, the Maasai Mara adjoins Tanzania's Serengeti National Park, and it serves as a home for several iconic species such as black rhinos, elephants, and lions.

Cheetahs and leopards have also been documented to live in the Maasai Mara National Reserve, and herbivores such as zebra, Thomson's gazelle, and wildebeest crisscross it on a regular basis during their annual migrations.

Since odds are that not all that many people will probably be lucky enough to visit this region sometime in the near future, I hope that this video will help bring home the fact that the Maasai Mara is truly gorgeous and should be protected.
