14 DAY TRIAL // “The Epic Split” Volvo commercial features Jan Claude Van Damme standing between two moving (backwards) trucks, with a foot on each side mirror while performing his signature stunt.
I must say it sounds crazy, but it looks even crazier seeing the martial art actor hanging on the side mirrors of the Volvo trucks in a perfect slip. Van Damme is known for his incredible stunts, but until now no one ever tried doing that on two moving vehicles.
In a teaser for Volvo trucks released earlier this month, Van Damme is pictured preparing for the stunt with the engineer behind Volvo's Dynamic Steering, Jan-Inge Svensson. The dangerous stunt is meant to demonstrate the stability and precision of the new Steering System by proving it with real live tests.
The commercial is part of a series of YouTube promotional videos called “experiments” from Volvo's ingenious marketing campaign. Volvo started testing the trucks with a bull chase and then continued with a hamster stunt, a hook test, a ballerina act and Van Damme's epic split.
Volvo's campaign is really proving their point, and having the epic presence of Jean Claude Van Damme is only making it better.
