Some chemicals can kill in concentrations of just one millionth of a gram, others smell so bad they can make you faint

Pretty much everybody is all too familiar with the fact that some chemicals can prove deadly. However, it's not often that regular people talk about how some compounds are so toxic they can kill in concentrations of just one millionth of a gram.

The good news is that the folks behind YouTube channel Sci Show don't mind doing just so. In fact, it was just a couple of days ago that they released a video documenting five of the most dangerous chemicals thus far discovered by scientists.

The video in question, available below, lists chlorine trifluoride among these compounds. The chemical can act as an oxidizer and is so good at starting fires and maintaining them that it can burn things such as bricks, gravel and even concrete.

Azidoazide azide, on the other hand, is said to be the most explosive compound ever known to mankind. It comprises 14 nitrogen atoms and it is not only highly reactive but also quite fond of destroying everything in its path when exploding.

Dimethylcadmium is also a fairly dangerous chemical. It is described as an organometallic compound and scientists say that is it pretty much the most toxic chemical in the world. The compound affects the heart, the lungs, the kidneys and other major organs first, and can even cause cancer.

Unlike these three nasty chemicals, thioacetone does not explode or start fires. It does, however, stink so badly that regular folks can smell just one drop of it from 0.5 kilometers (about 0.3 miles) away. In fact, this compound's stench can make people sick.

Lastly, fluoroantimonic acid also counts itself among the absolute worst chemicals in the world. As detailed in the video, this compound is a highly powerful corrosive agent. Apparently, it's as much as 10,000,000,000,000,000 stronger than sulfuric acid.

On the bright side, the chances that we could ever come face to face with either of these chemicals in our day to day life are pretty much slim to none. Unless we decide to embrace a career as chemists, that is.
