What with spring being in the air, nasty bugs come back from the dead to torment us and all, chances are many of you cannot wait for the time the weather will be just right to go hiking or enjoy the best picnic that ever was.

Well, if you're going to venture out in nature, there is one thing you really should do your best to stay away from: poison ivy. Unless you like getting rashes and feeling like you could tear off your own skin just to make the pain and itchiness go away, that is.

As detailed in the video below, the one compound that makes poison ivy one of the most hated plants ever to spring from the ground is called urushiol. This compound can penetrate the human skin and cause a terrible allergic reaction.

Apparently, it takes just 10 minutes for this nasty compound to be absorbed by our skin. When this happens, all hell breaks loose. We're talking one of the worst rashes ever, sometimes even complete with ugly-looking blisters.

The good news is that, according to scientists, rashes caused by poison ivy can get better if scrubbed with oatmeal mixed with water. In fact, specialists recommend taking an oatmeal bath. You'll feel super weird doing it, but at least your skin will like it.
