People only eat about half of the food that is produced worldwide on a yearly basis

Global food waste is a serious problem that human society must deal with as soon as possible. More so if it wishes to limit the effects of climate change and global warming.

The video above shows a guy, i.e. Linday Wilson of Shrink that Footpring, use 5 tomatoes to explain what food waste is all about.

As Linday details, some 1,471 pounds (670 kilograms) of edible food are produced for each and every person in the world on a yearly basis. However, the average Joe and Jane only gets to eat about half of it.

This is because some goes into feeding livestock and some goes into manufacturing biofuels.

Unfortunately, an impressive amount doesn't get used for anything. It either doesn't get the chance to reach supermarket shelves, or it gets thrown away with the trash, Linday says.

Needless to say, the practice of throwing away this much perfectly good food doesn't exactly help us live in harmony with Mother Nature.
