Apparently, molten tin forms popcorn-like shapes in water

If there's anything self-proclaimed The Backyard Scientist loves and adores, that's playing with molten metals and pouring them into perfectly random everyday objects just to see what happens.

In his latest video, which he posted online just yesterday, the science enthusiast melts seven different types of metal and then pours them into a tank of water. Because, you know, life can be pretty boring sometimes and a guy's gotta do what a guy's gotta do to keep himself entertained.

The first metal that he experiments with is pewter, which he melts on an electric stove. As soon as it hits the water, the molten pewter causes small but quite powerful Steam explosions to occur.

Lead, on the other hand, forms metal spears of sorts. As for tin, it really puts on a show as, rather than simply sinking to the bottom of the tank, it clumps and forms peculiar shapes that kind of resemble microwave popcorn.

The other metals that The Backyard Scientist experiments with in this video are bismuth, zinc, aluminum and iron. To see how these metals behave when molten and poured into water, check out the video below. Be warned, though, don't try to recreate these stunts at home or you might injure yourself.
