Douglas Kennedy, JFK's nephew and the son of Robert F. Kennedy and Ethel Kennedy, is being tried for harassment and child endangerment. He is being accused of kicking a maternity ward nurse on January 7.

According to ABC News, the incident occurred at Northern Westchester Hospital, in New York. Kennedy tried to take his two-day-old son outside of the hospital, but was instructed not to by maternity ward nurses.

Acting “by instinct,” he actually twisted one of the nurses' arms when asked to put the baby down. He then proceeded to kick another nurse when she tried pulling the baby out of his arms, as she thought that the child was in danger.

Kennedy was accompanied by a doctor at the time of his visit to the hospital, and does not believe he was endangering his newborn baby. His wife, Molly, is taking his side, defending her husband against allegations of child endangerment.

"It is sickening to think that our simple desire to take our son outside for fresh air has been warped into a charge of child endangerment," she said in a statement.
