Ubisoft has already confirmed that a sequel for Watch Dogs will be released alongside the game next month, but it's actually an eBook written by John Shirley and called //n/Dark Clouds.

Watch Dogs impressed plenty of gamers when it was first revealed back in 2012 thanks to an innovative modern-day premise, of protagonist Aiden Pearce hacking into various IT systems that govern the city of Chicago and using them to his benefit.

While the game's story will follow his adventures as he tries to get revenge on his enemies, Ubisoft has confirmed that a sequel to the main plot will be released in the form of an eBook called //n/Dark Clouds.

The novel is written by famous writer and hacker community member John Shirley, who had "unprecedented access" to the Ubisoft Montreal team behind the upcoming Watch Dogs games.

"Working on Watch Dogs was enormously interesting to me because its world offers the convergence of cyberpunk and the edgy tech reality of our times; it all plays out with action and energy against the inner city backdrop that I thrive in," John Shirley said in a statement.

"With hack tech in one hand and gun in the other, Aiden Pearce is a believable fusion of hacker and action hero who deliberately slips between the cracks of society to relentlessly pursue his agenda."

Shirley has also offered a brief synopsis of the book, revealing that it follows the adventures of another protagonist, Mick Wolfe, an ex-military man who gets caught in a dangerous game in Chicago's hacker underground.

"Following the events of Watch Dogs, //n/Dark Clouds gives players the opportunity to take their experience even further with new and familiar characters in the city of Chicago. One version of the ebook will be a standard digital book, but the other will be a totally upgraded interactive story with videos and images."

Watch Dogs //n/Dark Clouds will be made available in different languages at launch, including English, French, Italian, German, and Spanish.

It will be released right alongside the game on May 27, but it's unclear what eBook retailers will sell it at that time.

The actual Watch Dogs game will make its debut at the end of next month for the PC, PS3, PS4, Xbox 360, and Xbox One platforms. Ubisoft has also revealed that a Wii U edition will launch in fall, but the exact date or details are still unknown.

You can expect to hear a bit more about Watch Dogs and its eBook sequel in the following weeks. Until then, check out a trailer for it below.
