Ubisoft Montreal says different variables affect certain events

Ubisoft Montreal talked about Watch Dogs, its upcoming open world game, and emphasized that, while it may seem that most of its events are scripted, they're actually dynamically generated, as they depend on different variables.

Watch Dogs impressed lots of gamers since last year, when it was showcased by Ubisoft at E3 2012. The company showed it off more and more since then, including live gameplay demonstrations of its single-player missions and even its multiplayer events.

According to Ubisoft Montreal Lead Gameplay Designer Danny Belanger, who talked with GamingBolt, all the demonstrated sequences were dynamic, as there was very little scripting involved.

"There are many questions about the systemic or scripted nature of the game. Many people have doubts that we’ve scripted everything we shown," he said.

According to Belanger, lots of variables affect a certain outcome, so people won't actually experience the same thing over and over again.

"This is truly a systemic game – A good example is our E3 2012 demo with the car accident done by hacking the traffic lights, it depends on the amount of vehicles present at the intersection when it is triggered," he added.

"The gravity of the accident will totally depend on the speed and amount of cars at that instant. Our goal is to give a lot of interesting tools to the player to modify, affect the simulation and let him be creative in using them to achieve his goals!"

What's more, Creative Director Jonathan Morin also emphasized that the team was eager to show off all the different aspects of the game as soon as possible.

"The excitement around Watch Dogs we currently see in the industry generated a lot of buzz in the team and now we want nothing more than to show the world that all this attention is well deserved. We just can’t wait to let people play it."

Watch Dogs is expected to appear in November for PC, PS3, Xbox 360, Wii U, as well as for PlayStation 4 and Xbox One.
