The delay from October to May allowed Ubisoft Montreal to add new content and polish

The delayed release of Watch Dogs allowed Ubisoft Montreal to add some polish to the game, as well as to revise some of the systems and even add some new content, as it has been stated that, had the game been released in 2013, it would have provided a lacking experience.

Ubisoft's VP of Creative Lionel Raynaud reinforced that the decision to delay Watch Dogs to May this year allowed the team to add some finer details and include some new content. However, some of the larger concepts the team came up with have been saved for the next entry in the series.

He stated that if the team would have added the concept they put aside for a possible sequel, then it would have disrupted the consistency of Watch Dogs.

"There are always things that you have to keep for the next game. In this case, the extra time allowed us to put a lot of our ideas into the game, so we are happy with that," Raynaud said during a panel at last week's GDC.

"Yes, we have ideas [for a sequel]. Some ideas that we weren't able to get into the game would not have made a difference, while other, bigger ideas that naturally emerged during development were so different that we felt they would have changed the experience," he pointed out.

"The consistency that we have achieved with the characters, structure and narrative would have been difficult to maintain if we put in the other ideas that we had. So where we are now is keeping these ideas safe for the next game," Raynaud concluded.
