Not too long ago, divers Thomaz Monteiro, Flavia Passaglia and Brian Thompson came across a manta ray in dire need of help while exploring the waters off the coast of Costa Rica's Bat Islands.

Long story short, the aquatic creature was entangled in a fishing line, and was unable to free itself. Luckily, the three divers did not hesitate to swim to its rescue.

The video below, which made it online just a few days ago, shows Brian Thompson approaching the creature and using a small knife to cut the fishing line. In just a few seconds, the manta ray is freed.

“We (Thomaz Monteiro and Flavia Passaglia, from Brazil) were diving at Bat Islands, Costa Rica, when this peaceful manta came,” reads the video's description on YouTube.

“Brian Thompson (from Canada) gently cut the net fishing and now the manta can live with no pain,” the divers go on to detail this positively stunning experience.

In case anyone was wondering, Thomaz Monteiro, Flavia Passaglia and Brian Thompson did not settle for simply cutting the fishing line that was keeping this manta ray from swimming freely.

On the contrary, they also pulled the line out of the water, looking to make sure that no other aquatic creatures would become entangled in it. “We picked up the line. It's our trophy now!” they say.
