Horrific video shows baby seals being shot, dragged across the ice

First off, I have to admit that this is probably the most gruesome footage I have had the chance to see in quite a while, and not just because I happen to like seals and cannot stand the sight of them being harmed.

The video made it online just yesterday, when it was posted on YouTube by the Humane Society of the United States, and it is intended to raise awareness about the horrors of Canadian seal hunts.

The footage shows such marine mammals, some of which are still very young, being shot, beaten, and then dragged across the ice. The people who do this are after the animals' pelts, the Humane Society of the United States explains.

The organization further details that such hunts are organized each year during springtime, and that the folks who take part in them kill thousands of baby seals annually.

Conservationists and animal rights activists alike claim that these hunts are utterly inhumane, and ask that the current Prime Minister of Canada, Stephen Harper, pull the plug on this industry as soon as possible.

Based on what I have seen in the video below, I must say that I wholeheartedly agree with the Humane Society of the United States on this one.
