Joe Wright’s adaptation of Leo Tolstoy’s novel is original, quite unexpected

The first trailer for “Anna Karenina” came out a month ago but chances are few actually guessed it would play out almost like a theater play. This new 6-minute clip makes that pretty clear.

As director Joe Wright explains in the introduction, the entire film was shot in a dilapidated theater, with all scenes being shot inside.

Moreover, it becomes clear from the video, there's a theatricality to the film that makes it resemble a play, which would be an excellent metaphor for the obsession with appearance and propriety of those times.

Keira Knightley plays the titular character (a perfect choice, we might as well add), while Aaron Taylor-Johnson and Jude Law are the two men in her life.

“Anna Karenina” is scheduled for limited US release in November, so make sure you check out the video above to see whether it's something you might want to be looking forward to.
