The black bear turned against the tourists and started chasing them around because it wanted to keep its cubs safe

Just the other day, tourists visiting the Yellowstone National Park in the US went for a jog not because they wanted to but because a black bear started chasing after them.

The incident was caught on film and the video made it online shortly after. The footage, available below, was obtained by Montana Fish, Wildlife & Parks videographer Winston Greely.

It shows the black bear, a female accompanied by three cubs, herding the group of tourists back to their cars. The tourists are all trying to keep their cool but it's obvious they aren't exactly having the time of their life.

On the contrary, most of them seem pretty scared and don't waste any time getting inside their cars and locking the doors behind them to stay safe.

In a Facebook post, Montana Fish, Wildlife & Parks officials explain that the mama bear only turned against the Yellowstone visitors looking to protect her cubs.

Had the cubs been younger and, therefore, more vulnerable, odds are the black bear would have behaved way more aggressively towards the tourists. Luckily, this was not the case.

“Wildlife can be unpredictable. For your safety and theirs, respect wildlife and give them room to roam,” the post reads. “Stay a safe distance to reduce stress on wildlife,” wildlife experts urge.
