During his ninth medical examination, a baby panda looked after by the staff at the San Diego Zoo made an attempt to take his first steps.

Although caretakers praise his efforts, some would argue that the panda's crawling hardly qualifies as walking.

However, the cub is annoyingly cute and must be given at least some credit for trying.

As one veterinarian in charge of looking after his wellbeing explains, the cub is making significant progress as days go by, and soon enough he might actually succeed in walking on all fours.

For the time being, the 11-week-old baby panda will simply have to settle with using his front legs to drag the rest of his body across the floor.

“Certainly the front legs want to get up and go but the back legs sort of got a little bit left behind. But he's definitely learning, he's getting those skill sets that he needs and he's a pretty active little dude,” senior veterinarian P. K. Robbins said.
