On Saturday, both the staff and the animals at the Albuquerque Zoo got the chance to welcome a new member of their family: a baby giraffe which was born at this facility quite early in the morning.

While some were lucky enough to see both the birth and the baby giraffe's first attempts to walk in person, we will just have to settle for watching this video.

“She walked around with [the calf's] front feet out for about an hour, and then all of a sudden she got down on her knees ... stood up and gave it a big push and here it came,” one visitor to the zoo told members of the press.

The footage shows the baby giraffe trying to take its first few steps, and failing several times in a row.

Wobbling aside, the baby giraffe seems determined to figure out how to walk properly as soon as possible, and all we can do is wish it good luck.
