Thousands such marine mammals are filmed swimming together close to South Africa's coast

The video above shows thousands of dolphins swimming together in the waters close to South Africa's coast.

Although a proper explanation for why it is that dolphins gather in such large groups in order to move about the ocean is still lacking, most people speculate that these marine mammals might be simply looking to have some fun together.

Truth be told, such a dolphin "stampede" does more than simply entertain the ones taking part in it.

Quite the contrary: it also provides marine biologists and researches with stunning images that are relatively hard to come by.

Lastly, they help offer the general public a glimpse into the behavior of these marine mammals, and thus help raise awareness with respect to the need to protect our oceans.
