This was the first time the animal ever came across this problem

The fact that chimpanzees are some of the smartest animals presently inhabiting the planet is no news.

Still, witnessing one being able to solve a task that, let us be honest, would probably leave most people in the dark, is one very interesting sight.

This video shows how, being faced with having to extract one peanut from a fixed tube, a chimp resorts to using water as a means to get the treat floating all the way up to where its hand can reach it.

Naturally, it takes one or two trips before the water level raises enough for the chimp to be able to gain access to the peanut, but once the animal knows for sure that that is the right way to do it, there really is no stopping it from getting what it wants.

Just for the record, this was the first time the chimp had ever been faced with such a situation, so all of its actions were based on innovation, and not on repeating something it had previously learned.
