Wasteland 2, an RPG made by inXile Entertainment and developer Brian Fargo, will be released by the end of August.

The first Wasteland game was launched back in 1988 and you could imagine that there aren't many people left that are still interested in a sequel, but you would be wrong. Even after all this time, the developers of Wasteland 2 managed to get enough money on Kickstarter for this project.

Brian Fargo and the other people from inXile Entertainment wanted to release the game in 2013, but it turns out that complex RPGs are not as easy to make as they initially thought. The good news is that the final version of Wasteland 2 will arrive in a couple of months.

“We are very happy to announce the ship date for Wasteland 2: the game will be coming to you at the end of August of this year! Before saying anything else, I want to first and foremost again thank you, our backers. Without you I'd never be where I am today, just a few months removed from finally releasing the game I've been wanting to make for 25 years.”

“What we're releasing is a game of much greater scope than we ever dreamed of when starting our Kickstarter. More features, more areas, more reactivity, more words, all thanks to you for funding our game and for giving us the time needed to finish it. My goal has been to over deliver on your expectations for Wasteland 2,” said Brian Fargo in an update on the Kickstarter website.

Wasteland 2 is being built on the Unity engine, which supports the Linux platform, and a previous update enabled Linux users to play the game. Still, the developers have a lot of work left to do, and, along with the launch announcement, they also pushed a huge patch for the game.

According to the changelog, the Damonta and Missile Silo 7 have been released, more CNPC behaviors have been implemented, weapon jamming has been added, a few Game Difficulties have been added, a new HUD has been implemented, the combat HUD has been added, and the Animal Whisperer now allows non-hostile animals to follow as pets. This is just the tip of the iceberg for this patch and you should check the release notes for more details.

Softpedia already has a small quick-look for Wasteland 2, but the game has already changed a great deal since then.
