Developer inXile Entertainment has announced that its post-apocalyptic role-playing game Wasteland 2 is coming to the PlayStation 4 home console sometime later this year.

InXile Entertainment revealed that the game would come to the Xbox One home console from Microsoft yesterday, and now they're coming with good news for owners of Sony's eight-generation device.

The game made its debut on PC at the end of 2014, garnering a lot of attention. The entire project was meant to be a spiritual successor to the 1998 classic Wasteland, regarded as one of the most influential video games ever created and highly ahead of its time.

After a successful crowdfunding campaign on Kickstarter, inXile got to work and managed to create an experience that is engaging and highly replayable, due to the sheer amount of choice involved.

No two Wasteland 2 players are likely to experience the same random encounters, and the fact that the narrative is driven by player choice further capitalizes on this wealth of interaction.

Wasteland 2 is one of the best role-playing games of 2014

In the role-playing game, gamers assume control of a squad of four Desert Rangers, trying to maintain peace and order throughout the post-apocalyptic Arizona desert.

The storyline follows a hidden evil looming on the horizon, with the potential to bring about another apocalyptic event if left unchecked.

The gameplay features the rich and engrossing game world design of Fallout (which in turn was inspired by Wasteland), and the challenging and satisfying turn-based tactical combat of XCOM: Enemy Unknown.

The team's main focus was on creating a world that revolves around reactivity, that reacts to player choice and offers players a living world for them to explore as they see fit.

There are no black and white moral choices or outcomes, it's all relative and you are the arbiter. However, the world will account for your choices and characters will react accordingly.

The console edition of Wasteland 2 is the Game of the Year one that inXile is working on, coming with a ton of improvements, and a massive visual overhaul, as the game makes the transition from Unity 4.5 to Unity 5.
