The player will need to compare their usefulness with their costs

Brian Fargo, the man behind the recent effort to resurrect Wasteland, explains some of the party mechanics of his project, including characters that are able to betray the protagonist.

He told VG247 that, “What I really love about the characters – particularly the player’s companions – is that they aren’t always honest. Some will steal from the group, betray you and so on. How much of a say will players have when customising their group, and can companions suffer perma-death?”

“Each of these NPC’s has a different personality and will have their advantages and disadvantages. Some might be incredibly annoying but have a useful skill that you might not want to live without. It’s all about choices and trade-offs in Wasteland,” according to the developer.

Wasteland 2 was created using funding from Kickstarter and will give players a chance to create a character and then explore the post-apocalyptic world that served as inspiration for Fallout.

The game launches in 2013.
