The Washington Nationals, MLB Advanced Media and Tickets.com announced that the Nationals have become the first major organization in the U.S. to deliver event tickets to mobile phones. Using technology provided by Tickets.com, the Tickets@Phone program allows users to have their tickets sent to their phone via MMS or picture message.

The message includes a unique barcode and standard ticket information. The ticket received is scanned from the phone at a designated gate, allowing users to quickly enter the ballpark. Guests also receive a print out of their ticket to be retained throughout the game. Derek Palmer, Tickets.com's Chief Commercial Office stated "This technology will contribute to the Nationals' effort to provide the best fan experience by eliminating the need to carry a paper ticket, or to wait in a will call line to pick up their tickets. With Tickets@Phone, fans can purchase a ticket and go directly to the admission gate."

The Washington Nationals and Tickets.com will host a Ticket Technology Weekend, April 27 and 28, when the team hosts the New York Mets for a three-game series. Tickets.com representatives will be exhibiting the various features afforded to both season ticket holders and casual fans. Besides Tickets@Phone, demonstrations will include My Nationals Tickets, an online tool that allows season ticket holders to manage their tickets and transfer them to a friend via email, eliminating the need to mail the tickets or give them in person; Ticket Replay, an online tool for season ticket holders to resell their tickets and where single ticket buyers may purchase those tickets; and Tickets@Home, where buyers can print tickets in advance from home. Additionally, demonstrations will be given on how to use Ticket Kiosks, located outside of RFK Stadium, to purchase tickets in advance or on the day of game. The first 1500 fans that stop by for a demonstration will receive a Nationals t-shirt courtesy of MLB.
