Video game developer Warren Spector has spoken about the upcoming Epic Mickey: Power of Illusion and about the way the game will blend gameplay elements taken from the original Epic Mickey release for the Nintendo Wii home console and features from the classic Castle of Illusion.

The actual narrative picks up after the events of the first Warren Spector-designed Mickey-powered video game and features Mizrabel, an evil witch, and her mysterious Castle of Illusion.

They were transported into the Wasteland by the wizard Yen Sid, and Minnie was one of the first characters to be trapped inside.

Now Mickey and Oswald the Lucky Rabbit need to team up in order to make sure that the plot of the witch is stopped and to save all the characters that have been trapped in the Castle of Illusion.

The core of the Epic Mickey 3DS outing will be platforming, using both characters in order to get over a number of environmental challenges, but players will also have to use the paint mechanics in order to reshape the world around them.

The better touch screen of the new Nintendo handheld will allow the development team to create complex situations, asking players to draw something carefully in order to make sure that a weapon or trap affects only enemies and poses no threat to the player characters.

It’s not clear how Power of Illusion will use the glass free 3D technology of the Nintendo handheld and whether the game and its console cousin, Epic Mickey 2, will interact in any way.

The Power of Two is planned for a September 2012 launch on the Wii, the Xbox 360, the PlayStation 3 and the PC and will also star Mickey and Oswald.

Take a look at how Spector himself delivers the information in the video below, which was aired during the Nintendo Direct event that details the future of the Wii home console and the 3DS handheld.
