Warren Spector, who gamers still praise for creating Deus Ex, believes that David Cage, the leader of Quantic Dream, is a very good writer but that he should give players more freedom to experiment in his games.

Spector told MCV Pacific that, “Heavy Rain – I would just never make a game like that. In Heavy Rain, nothing surprising will ever happen. No player will ever see anything, do anything, discover anything that David (with his undeniable genius) didn’t create.”

Spector is currently working on Epic Mickey 2 and he has repeatedly said that he aims to create an open sandbox, giving players a number of tools and then allowing him to use them, and the environment, to solve the challenges of the game.

Speaking about Heavy Rain, Spector added, “I loved that game as an experience – it was unbelievable. It made every day mundane things high drama. I mean, holy cow! I’m in awe of the talent of the guy who wrote it and his ability to tell a cinematic story. But would I ever make a game like that? Absolutely not.”

Warren Spector is currently working on Epic Mickey 2: The Power of Two, which Disney and Junction Point Studios will launch during the fall of this year.

The game will pair Mickey Mouse with Oswald the Rabbit and will allow them to use paint and a set of new mechanics to battle the machinations of the Mad Doctor.

At the moment Quantic Dream, under the leadership of Cage, is working on a new game called Beyond: Two Souls.

The game will focus on main character Jodie Holmes, played by Ellen Cage, as she tries to get answers about what happens after death.

Beyond: Two Souls will be launched during the first quarter of 2013 exclusively on the PlayStation 3 from Sony.
