Instead of protecting the device, the folio might leave permanent marks on it

As you are probably well aware, owners of the Nexus 7 can take advantage of a bunch of dedicated accessories designed especially for their tablet alone. But some of these accessories might actually damage your slate, instead of protecting it.

Here’s how the story goes. When talking about the Nexus family, Google does a great job at marketing competitive hardware at attractive prices, but the same can’t be said when it comes to dedicated accessories. For some obscure reason, Google seems to be dead set in selling these accessories with pretty steep price-tags.

One of the accessories we’re talking about is the Nexus 7 Folio, which came out in December and sold for a pretty lofty $49 / €36. Taking the price out of the equation, the case is pretty solid and comes bundled with sleep/wake function and it can double as a stand, when you need a propping solution for your tablet.

Anyway, one of the editors at AndroidCentral who had been keeping the sleeve on his Nexus 7 pretty much permanently since December 2013, finally took it off for a change. At this point, we should also note to remind you, the folio comes sporting a vivid redish color, which might complement the darkness of the Nexus.

Nevertheless, when finally taking the Nexus 7 out of the folio, the owner noticed visible reddish-orange lines all around the back of the tablet, around all the four corners.

Not only that, but wherever there’s a cutout on the case, a deep red line is there to compliment the whole picture. The really worrisome part is that he tried scrubbing them off, but they apparently don’t come off. Is this Google’s way of providing a permanent makeover to its line of Nexus 7 tablets?

The problem is probably due to the loose nature of the case. Despite that, the edges are pretty rigid, but leave enough space for flexing around the tablet while owners use it throughout the day. But wherever there’s flexing involved, a red line is there too.

Sure, one can resolve the issue, by snapping the case back on and hiding the horrible little red lines. But then you’d expect Google to provide better quality for its accessories.

Even so, if you’re not discouraged but what we told you so far, at least consider getting the black version of the Nexus 7 Folio to avoid getting those ugly and seemingly permanent marks.
