Now, is it just me, or this is another idiotic cloning act in the audio electronic industry? I couldn't believe my eyes when I saw this. And still, I am confused.
The fellows from Engadget give us the Sofmap's digital olive DAP, which looks like an X2gen X-Egg Mp3 player I run into a couple of
weeks ago. But the thing is Softmap company apparently won a "reddot" design prize this year.
What? Holy Gadget! There is another one that looks exactly the same. The Axxen i-Egg DAP sports the same "futuristic oval enclosure". The digital Sofmap olive measures 0. 31 inches around the waist and 5.5 inches long, as well as the "innovative-not" 3 speakers system.
They are all capable of playing MP3 and WMA file formats from the SD/MMC or devices slug of them USB host port. Unfortunately, the player doesn't pack a headphone jack so you're kind of stuck with listening to those miniature speakers. What do you mean: "What player?" All of these. These things are like all the same brainless kitsch olive. What's with this trend of making "ovule-like" mp3 players?
So, I can't figure what was that prize for, as all of them claim to sport a modern and "unique technology". As wacky it may sound, there could be a reasonable explanation for this. It's called OEM, or else, "original equipment manufacturer", a term that refers to a situation in which one big fish purchases a manufactured product from another company and resells it as being its own.
The OEM is the company that originally manufactured the product. Now, the only question is: "Who's the OEM, in this case?" Apparently, these fellows have non limit when it comes to tinkering with the very essence of high tech industry. Somebody should prohibit gadget cloning.
Hilarious!
We are just a few, but there are many of you, Softpedia users, out there. That's why we thought it would be a good idea to create an email address for you to help us a little in finding gadgets we missed. Interesting links are bound to be posted with recognition going mainly to those who submit. The address is
