The Kaiser python escaped from its cage

On Sunday, April 1, I read an interesting story concerning the Google New York office and its Kaiser python. According to the report, the pet snake escaped from its cage and was hiding somewhere in the building. Although I believed it was only an April Fool's Day prank, it seems like the story was true and caused a little agitation in the Google office. According to Dan Bentley, Software Engineer at Google, they first received an e-mail message on Sunday, saying the snake escaped and is hiding in the building.

"Over the weekend, a pet snake belonging to a Googler escaped from its cage. The snake is a 3-foot long, brown-and-grey, ball python named Kaiser. Ball pythons are non-venomous and are commonly kept as pets. Tempting as it might be, this is not an April Fool's joke! We are sending this message to alert you to the situation and to let you know what to do in the event that you see the snake," the message said.

The Monday morning was quite funny when all the employees started to joke thinking that it was only a prank but they realized quickly that Kaiser is really hiding behind some cabinets. As Dan said, there were a lot of funny signs and messages posted in their kitchen while the bathrooms were quite empty the entire day. Some of the Googlers were staying away from corners and walls so it was obvious they felt the threat.

It all ended with a happy announcement on Monday, April 2 at 10.45 PM when the employees received another e-mail message concerning the snake: "After consultations with a herpetology expert at the American Museum of Natural History, our team of Google security and concerned volunteers located Kaiser relaxing behind a cabinet earlier this evening, and he was returned safely home with his owner," as the Google employee sustained.
