We all know and love the “Lethal Weapon” series, an action-comedy combination of films that grew into a popular franchise, aided by the talents of Danny Glover and Mel Gibson, who played a set of mismatched LAPD detectives that got into all sorts of adventures.

The news today by Tracking Board claims that Chris Hemsworth, the actor best known for his lead role in the superhero franchise “Thor” is being offered the lead role in a reboot of the series. Warner Bros. wants to make a revamped version with a younger generation of policemen.

It's not yet mentioned, but it looks like Chris is being offered the role of Riggs' son, as a young man aspiring to a career within the police force. In the original movies, Riggs was played by Mel Gibson. This leaves the door open for Gibson to be featured as the crazy cop one more time.

It also ties in with where the action was left in the last movie, “Lethal Weapon 4,” when Martin Riggs and Lorna Cole (played by Rene Russo) had a baby. Seeing as how that scene took place 20 years ago, their son could be ready to join the police force by today.

The idea makes even more sense when you look at the last “Die Hard” movie, which followed pretty much the same pattern – the aging policeman father joining in the adventures of his young son. This is the latest `90s reboot/sequel to hit the screens after “Beverly Hills Cop” and “Die Hard” have both been greenlit for a sequel.
