Warner Bros. Interactive Entertainment has officially announced that 5th Cell Media is developing a new title, called Super Scribblenauts, set to arrive during the fall of this year. The platform of choice for the new title will be the Nintendo DS and Warner says that the new game will take all the innovative features of its predecessor and add a layer of polish which was at times absent from the game that launched in September 2009 and managed to sell more than 1.1 million copies.

The hero of the game will again be Maxwell and his main aim will be the acquisition of the beautiful Startite, which is only accessible when he manages to solve puzzles and progress through levels. The developers at 5th Cell are planning to revamp the control scheme and make the main character more responsive to player commands while also improving the way the stylus and the touch screen are used in Super Scribblenauts.

The basic gameplay mechanics of Scribblenauts was linked with creating objects, from animals to famous persons, by writing words on the screen of the Nintendo DS. In the sequel, players are set to have the ability to add adjectives to the nouns they use to create objects into the game, modifying their properties in order to solve puzzles. The developers are promising that “colour, size, style, behaviours and many other aspects of the object they are describing” can be influenced by players, saying that Supper Scribblenauts supports the creation of such imaginative things as “gentlemanly, flaming, flying zombies and purple, obese, winged elephants”.

Scribblenauts was impressive from a quantitative standpoint, with a word database designed to accommodate as many word choices on the part of the player as possible, but it had some problems with the way Maxwell was controlled. As long as these issues are solved and adjectives are properly implemented Super Scribblenauts could be one of the hits on the Nintendo DS when autumn rolls around.
